"Paul" <nonopsam.com> wrote: HI! I have been driving a 9-3 2.2 TiD since March 1999, so far 80000 km. The engine feels decently powered, up to 180 km/h there is still a considerable acceleration, above that, it takes some time to reach its top speed of 200 km/h. The engine has obviously been constructed by Austrian company Daimler Steyr Puch with the "asssistence" of Saab. I do not know which company produces the engine. The engine does certainly not run as smooth as e.g,. the diesel engines from Audi, which are also used for VWs etc. The fuel consumption is also somewhat higher, as it seems. The vibrations are in fact a bit annoying and I am still awaiting the day they will have shaken something loose (though I now have a strange noise, maybe they succeeded). There seems at least one problem with the engine which is known to Saab. Some gasket seem to develop leaks after a while, and the engine starts loosing oil. Sorry for not knowing the English term for those gaskets. This happened to me at about 75000 km, but is known to occur any time, since it seems a general assembly / quality problem. The engine is not certified for Biodiesel (if that is of interest to you) and a conversion is somewhat problematic, due to the long fuel lines which need to be replaced.
