Subject: Re: USing Sythetic Tranny Lube

From Saabnet and Townsend, in a C900, if there is gear lube in the transmission, continue to use gear lube. If you want to switch to synthetic gear lube, you may have a bit more seepage from the old seals. If it has only had regular dino engine oil (10W40 was stock), you can change to another synthetic engine oil or regular engine oil. Do not put gear lube in the tranny if it has engine oil in it now or you will not be able to go back without a disassembly. Gear lube smells of sulphur. If you use synthetic engine oil, you may see more seal seepage, though I did not. I was able to enjoy a bit better shifting with the AmsOil Series 2000 20w50. this is what is recommended by Townsend for maximum pinion bearing life. http://216.78.172.244/transmission_folder/spovgearboxlube.htm The other link is down, but is on the service page and under major service. It outlines his personal experience with different lubes and average life in miles. as always YMMV KeithG "David Haydon" <home01nopsamorld.com> wrote in message news:oBiE7.44904$GA.6710159nopsam2-win.server.ntlworld.com... > don't do it!
