I have no experience with the European headlights but if it is a USA model, there are three metal thumbnuts which hold the retaining chrome piece on they screw onto plastic parts connected to the ring. On older models (which is all of them by now) they are difficult to get off and the plastic often breaks. Good luck Charles.
