The XL oils do have different additive package, lacking some of the elements which contribute to the extended drain capability. Oil analysis has shown that they are indeed quite capability of going longer than the 7500--but not as long as the others. Really designed for the quick-lube and dealer market (to overcome the screams of the uneducated about voiding warranty and not having an API symbol). Dick in Falls Church
