The original reason for the key being between the seats was that in the course of real-world accident research, SAAB found that a steering column or dash mounted key could cause serious injuries. Primarily to the driver's knee in a frontal collision, or the passenger's head in diagonal collisions. Think about a part of your body hitting a thin, hard, metal object in a high speed collision.... To prevent this, SAAB engineers tucked the key down between the seats out of harm's way. One of the many small, thoughtful touches that make SAABs unique. Of course, there are a number of SAAB features that make one wonder how much aquavit the engineers were drinking too! ;-) Kevin Rhodes Westbrook, Maine 85 900T > > I'm aware that the Saab key has always been where it is.
