Most of the people in the US favor stricter pollution controls. unfortunately the industries have so much money to throw around in lobbying and disinformation campaigns that the nitwits in the government still move very slowly so as not to upset their business friends. But, while we're on the subject of politics, you should realize that a 'tax' of this sort is just another way for your politicos to take even more of your hard earned money while bending over for their business friends in your country. Instead of just passing legislation requiring the auto manufacturers to supply cars with lower emissions, (and upsetting *their* industry friends), they allow them to produce whatever they want and pass the emissions 'cost' on to you. Seems our politutions are not so different, eh ? Bob saddle the end-user with another tax.,
