It also earned a reputation of being unreliable because of a design issue. The head did not have adequate oil flow and absolutely required oil changes every 3,000 miles. Guess, what, the same is being said about the Toyota V6 engine. There are complaints about sludge in the Toyota V6, possibly due to the design of the head and definitely due to extending oil changes beyond 5,000 miles. Perhaps what could be said is the V6 requires more maintenance, but then, is that being said the Turbo four cylinder Saab and Volvo engines. You also hear the same advice - 'Don't buy a used turbo Saab or Volvo' because the engine is subject to more stress and wear. > Plus, there's some feeling out there that it isn't a "REAL" > Saab engine, but was foisted on them by GM in response to some perceived > marketing need (most other competing cars in the class have V6s).
