"Statistically speaking they are totally invalid"? Come on, CR's reliability assessments are based on 500,000 responses to their questionnaires. That's a pretty good population from which to conduct a reliability assessment. Their methods may be suspect, but mailing out questionnaires to groups of people is an accepted method for compiling data for statistical analyses. 500,000 responses constitutes an exceptional database. Perhaps one could argue that the subscribers may be biased in some fashion, but in what way? You note that CR does not provide access to the raw data. Is that unexpected? Its proprietary data! Does J.D. Edward provide access to their raw data? How about reliability assessments conducted by other groups. How about the computer reliability assessments conducted by PC Mag and PC World. Their survey databases are probably much smaller than CR's. Are their assessments invalid also?
