Agree with all you've said re leaving person in car etc. etc. I posted earlier this year concerning a head on crash I was involved in. We all discussed the merits of seatbelts, airbags etc. My accident occurred whilst still dark. I was conscious though dazed, however, thought the car was on fire due to the haze and fumes that enveloped me. Another car had pulled up with lights shining into my car (or what was left). He also thought the inside of my car was on fire. Unbeknown to myself, or him, and I dare say most people in accidents, it was the airbag gas that had deployed. He got me out of there quicksmart, (doors unlocked). During that time however, I remember being petrified. In hindsight, and if I'd suffered a back injury, it may have been the wrong thing to do, however, I was fine (well kind of), but would not want to relive that experience and was just glad I was out of there given my thoughts re fire. The airbag/seatbelt btw certainly saved me from major facial and other injuries. Occupants of others cars that did not have airbags were a mess (one deceased). Having said all that, it seems like natural instinct for any well meaning bystander to render assistance in a fire/smoke situation aided by unlocked doors. Perhaps airbags save lives/injuries, but the incursion by helpers may subsequently disable patients??? I really don't think there's an answer to any of my thoughts other than public education?? Davo
