Subject: Re: turbo ( somewhat OT )

Simon Putz <simon.putznopsamline.de> pressed random keys until the following was produced: > hi, > i was just wondering what the differnce between "turbo" , "compressor" and "supercharged" is, > does it all refer to the same technic (little box with turbine-something connected to engine ;P ) > or are there differences, saab uses exhaust loading or something? are there other ways for a "turbo" > to work? A quick response, and ask more details if you want them, Turbo: Rotates by force of the exhaust gasses, which turns a shaft and adds compression to the intake air. Proportional to load, more or less. Supercharger: Rotates by being driven by the crankshaft, compresses the intake air. Proportional to engine speed. Compressor: What both of these are. It's a bit oversimplified, but that's what it boils down to. Hope this helps, Dave Hinz
