Subject: Need home for '89 SPG, no tranny, in MA

OK, folks, this is difficult: It's time for me to part with my beloved '89 SPG. Its transmission failed a year ago. Though technically capable of replacing it (I've probably changed five in the 400,000 miles I've driven 900s), since I'm now living outside of Boston, I don't have the facilities (driveway, garage, something). A coworker wanted to give it a shot, so he and I pulled the motor. Since this was a learning project, we pulled off the head and were going to have the head looked at by someone competent. The plan had been to do the lower end of the motor as well, but my understanding since then has been that the 16 valves are near bullet-proof, and probably isn't worth the effort. Wish I could tell y'all the results of a compression check, but we didn't do one. Anyway, this project has halted (much shorter and sadder story than the one I'm telling here). It's time to expediently get the car out of my friend's driveway. I can give it to some charity, but if there's someone who understands what an SPG is and wants to give it some love, I'd rather see it go to them. But I need to have it gone by the end of the year, and preferably by the end of the weekend. Let me try and describe the state of things. The car has not been driven for a year. Ran Mobil 1, changed every 8,000 miles since I got the car at 100,000. It's got just under 220,000 miles. Radiator, clutch, alternator were all relatively new a year ago. Steering rack is OK. Paint is in good shape, though there's a little rust at the forward end of the rocker panels. There's a vibration at around 55mph. I think this might have been transmission related, but I'm not convinced. Skirts complete, in decent shape. Bumper trim missing. Sunroof works. Driver's seat worn, neither heaters work. Car has optional Saab gauge package (outside temp, oil pressure, volts). ECU does not drive the fuel pump. I have this jumpered, but have used ECU that should fix this. SPG rims have some curb rash. Old tires are not interesting. Interior is not in the best of shape. No tears, but hole in upholstery under driver's foot. No rear deck. Headliner sagging. It's Eduardian gray. Engine and gearbox are out of the car. I'm not sure if this saves work or complicates assembly. But you should know about it. If you're interested in this car, please let me know. I'd like to see it go to a good home (someone who knows what fun an SPG is), but I need to give preference to anyone with the facility to move it soon. If you're interested, please drop me an email, or call me on my cell phone: 617-448-2439. Thanks, kit transue saabnopsamch.com
