As far as I understand the way the tyre profile numbering works is as follows taking your size as example ... 215/55 R16 R16 - rim size - 16inch diameter. - does not imply width of rim 215 - tread width in millimetres 55 - percentage of sidewall height to tread width - 215*55% = 118 millimetres Tyres that match your car will ALWAYS have the same design circumference - within a tolerance. As the tyre wears down the circumference changes. So if you find a wider tyre you can reduce the percentage sidewall but the overall diameter of the tyre will remain the same. If you want the tyres to have less sidewall you will have to change both rim and tyre. Hope this helps Jeff "Zubin" <binabinanopsamspring.com> wrote in message news:9vj82t$kma$1nopsam9.atl.mindspring.net... > Oops, my tire size is 215/55 R16. > > Zubin <binabinanopsamspring.com> wrote in message > news:9vj549$75s$1nopsam9.atl.mindspring.net... > > Hello, i own a 99 9-5, about to buy 4 new tires with existing 16 inch > rims. > > However, i want to get a wider and lower profile tire, it would make the > > SAAB look much better. > > > > Can someone recommend a larger size than stock.
