Subject: SAAB TRANSMISSION LIGHT

I am experiencing this problem also, sometimes when it is really cold outside car ( SAAB 900 S convertible 1995 2.3 L) starts with AUTO TRAN light problem indicator on. After a couple of engine restarts, light goes away and transmission runs flowlesly... Several months ago I added some transmission fluid (it was low). Is it possible that the transmission fluid added was not up to the SAAB quality? Go it at a gas station... Thank you so much Kiato, Greece From: Peter Vachon (lancousanopsamdnet.att.net) Subject: Cold Auto Transmission Woes Newsgroups: alt.autos.saab View this article only Date: 2001-10-09 05:31:40 PST My '97 900 SE seems to be getting a little bit cold-blooded. Now that the weather has turned cooler, I find that the transmission will often not shift into first gear when the car is first started. The tranny defaults to "safe mode" (third gear) and the check engine light and check gear box light turn on. If I let the engine warm for a few minutes the problem does not exist. After a few restarts, the warning lights shut off. Letting the engine warm is a bit of a nuisance; the car only has 70K miles! Anyone out there with the same problem and a solution? Thanks, Peter V. For better results, use synthetic ATF. If you do it yourself, you can drain what is in the pan, replace it and drive. Get it well mixed, then repeat the operation a couple more times. If that doesn't solve the problem, you may have a mechanical problem and have to see someone who know the tranny. Auto transmission fluid should be changed every two years, at a minimum. I suggest Red Line transmission fluid. http://www.redlineoil.com/ -- Remove "NOSPAM" from address for direct e-mail ####### # #### # # # # # # # ## # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ## # # #### # # # --
