I don't know about your car, but many cars have a panel dimmer switch that you turn to increase or decrease the brightness of the dash lights. It could be something that simple, I know that happened to me once or twice in my car, and I didn't even think of it because it was such a simple thing. I know that Saabs have the "night panel" button, but that would leave your speedo lit up, and your gas gauge, too when it runs low, but perhaps that switch is malfunctioning? Something else you may try if the above doesn't work is to do some investigative work. Find a light bulb that you know should be on when the dash lights are on and use a tester to make sure it is getting electricity. I do wonder why you think it is unfortunate that you have a manual. I drove automatic trannys my whole life up until about 5 years ago when I got a 5 speed, and I really prefer a stick now. I know, if you are in a lot of traffic on a daily basis they can be a pain, but overall I feel much closer to the car when I am driving a stickshift. The unfortunate thing to me today is how many people cannot even drive a stick. You have a Saab turbo convertible with a 5 speed...I would say that you are most fortunate :-) Good luck. JJ
