Subject: 1974 Sonett III
I am looking at a 1974 Sonett III. It's in very good condition,
although not pristine. It's almost all original, except the original
carb has been replaced with a Weber and the dual exhaust has been
replaced with a custom job with a glass-pack (sounds great!). The
freewheeling does not function (not sure if it's been "neutered" on
purpose). It has some rust in the usual place, the bottom of the
trunk. The current owner has lined the trunk with sheets of aluminum.
The body is in good shape with the original paint. I have not seen
any cracks or fractures. The headliner droops over the passenger
seat, but the interior is in good shape otherwise. The car has
145,000 miles. It runs, drives, steers and stops great. It's been
well taken care of through the years.
The owner is not sure what he wants to ask for it, so I need to
come up with an offer. From my research of similar cars for sale on
the Internet, I feel this one falls somewhere in the middle (between
pristine and those needing work), or around the $2500-$3000 range.
I would like to know if anyone here has any opinions on the value
of this car and/or what I should offer for it.
