Subject: Re: correct spark plug(s) for '92 9kS please!

This thing about the sparkplugs is an age old battle. If you have a '92 9ks it should be a non-turbo car, and that appears to be the critical difference with the 2.3L engine and Direct Ignition. The turbo models with the 2.3L engine use the APC or Trionic ignition control system to control the engine spark in relation to the amount of boost at any given time. Apparently the Saab engineers used the NGK plugs when they designed the system and the resistance of the plug is critical to the way the Direct Ignition works...On the other hand, non-turbo cars don't have the same spark management problems...Mine is an 87 9000S. I have been running the Bosch Platinum + 4 plugs for over 40,000 miles without a problem...Townsend Imports has used them in later non-turbo model 9000s with good results... There are those who will use nothing but NGK...My 9000s had the NGK BCP6ES plugs, when I got the car. I switched to the regular Bosch Platinum plugs and later to the + 4 plugs after my Saabtech friend tried a set in his 87 9000T...He was very pleased...The bottom line is it is your decision...I probably have not helped, but now you may understand some of the arguments...checkout www.saabnet.com and www.townsendimports.com Ken Washington 87 9000S Bosch Platinum + 4 over 40,000 miles 87 900S Bosch Platinum 2 years 83 900T Bosch Platinum 11 years
