Subject: Re: Dash in Total Darkness???

Gina, This is a known problem - at least by myself. Unfortunately, the solution is not known - or at least it's kept a big secret. When I had it, I posted here, and got absolutely no response so maybe it's rare. My Saab '92 9000 CS would plunge the dash into blackness intermittently, typically about 10 minutes into a journey, then sometimes spontaneously revive. I found that a sharp slap on the top of the dash would sometimes bring it back. Eventually I got really fed up and went for a cure - tried several things and am not sure what actually worked. This is what I did: 1. Jiggled all fuses in the fuse panel. 2. Jiggled all relays in the relay box. 3. Removed the dash top (not too sure if your 900 dash is like this) then removed the instrument pod and replaced several blown bulbs (this was an even older problem). 4. Jiggled the wires at the back of the instrument dimmer switch. Try some or all of these. I have a suspicion that it was one of the connectors to the instrument pod (these are 4 in number) or the wires to the dimmer switch - otherwise why would the slap on the dash have had an effect? My 9000 has been OK since - that's some 9 months now.
