Our '96 9000 is much the same -- we have a headlight switch offering up what amount to the famed Luca Electric "Off, Flicker, Dim" choice: off, marker lamps, headlights. Once the ignition is in the ON position, they are essentially the same. My Fiat X1/9 at least gave you options: with the engin running OFF gave you...well, no lights. ON gave y ou what you would expect. With the igntion in the OFF position, OFF gives you, oddly, "OFF", on gives you "OFF' and MARKER gives you...well MARKER lights -- about what you'd expect with the engine in the off position.
