Subject: Life of roller bearing in differential output??

I am in the process of swapping the inner and outer joints of my daughter's 900S side-for-side. During cleaning, I noticed that the ball bearings in the differential output shaft bearing carrier were *completely* worn out. So, I bought new bearings and seals. Now I'm wondering about the roller bearings which lie inboard of the ball bearings. These are much more difficult to check and even more difficult to get out for replacement. The car has 235K miles on it, so I'd expect some bearing wear :-). Is is possible to adjust the preload on the roller bearing by removing shims? Is it advisable? Is there any way to know how much shim is correct while doing it *on the car*? TIA/Don Carron "LABOR SVGIT"
