My local Saab seem unable to cure this problem, can anyone help please?

I get intermittent reception on FM. AM is always OK.  Apparently Saab
have checked the aerial connection at the set and at the aerial and
these are OK.  They now want to replace the radio/CD/tape unit at some
amazingly high cost.  

It seems to me more likely to be a poor aerial connection.  Can anyone
advise on how I can check this out and any likely sites where the wire
may be damaged.
