It is likely moisture got into the worn rubber boot at the end of the brake cable near the rear wheels. The moisture froze which caused the hand brake cable to stick. What I used to do on my 89 900S was just not use the hand brake in winter time. Well I had a 5 speed so I am not concerned about the car rolling away while parked. Where I did park was flat in any case. The rubber boot is like the headliner on the 900. It happens on everyone of them. Yaofeng
