Subject: 9000 Rocker cover hoses?

hi there... lifted the hood on my '93 9000 2.0i cse today to find the large hose on the top of the rocker cover had popped out, and a little oil had sprayed round about that area. anyway, cleaned up and put it back in place...and it seems ok (wouldn't suprise me if my wife had knocked it out last week when checking the oil!). anyway...couldnt have lost much oil, as level is still at max. the other thing though, is the smaller hose - it was just a-dangling. can anyone shed some light on where this goes. i must stress, although a '93 the engine is an older non-di engine, so the intake manifold looks slightly different (i think!). on the left hand side of the rear of the manifold, there is a small valve(?) that looked like where the small rocker cover hose should attach, so i gave it a go. the engine immediately tuned down a note...seemed to be running much smoother for this. a slower...smoother, quieter idle. this was all fine and dandy till i took it out for a run to the shop. it did seems to be driving much smoother than of late, but then to my dismay the *check engine* light came on. disconnected the hose for the return journey, and by the time i got home the *check-engine* light had gone out again. hmm. i take it thats not where the small hose goes? i'm confussed. help me please! glen
