The oil level seemed a bit inconsistent from the start, maybe I've been checking oil incorrectly for years. I used to do it with a wiped dipstick on level ground, first thing in the morning when the engine had been off all night. However, when I got the SAAB the handbook recommended the engine to be warm, 2-5 mins after the engine was switched off. I tend to check it both ways and try to keep the oil about 1/2 full (SAABs method) or 3/4 full (my method). I'm probably being a bit over cautious, but I'd like my SAAB to see at least 200,000 miles.
