Subject: BMW goes wacky ! Have you seen this ?

I was just reading about the new 7-series. Seems that BMW engineers took a "fresh" look at how the features of a car were used, and "re-designed" them to fit, not to follow traditions. So, they decided that there should be a button beside the key to start the car, since the key's function is to unlock the car, not "start" that car. (Great, two controls to do what one does on every other machine in the world), Next we have the shifter. The engineers decided that the shift lever took up too much space, so they use a "miniature", stalk mounted control to shift the tranny. (ooh, a stalk mounted shifter. Maybe next they can add push buttons like a 67 Dodge). Last, and I saved the best, all vehicle systems (entertainment, navigation, climate, etc) are controlled through a single knob. Yes, ONE knob. You push it left, right, up down to select an area of operation. Then your rotate it to scroll through menus. Then you push it to select a menu. You get the idea. (I'm not going to even comment on this control, think up your own. OK, one comment: try doing this to change the radio station on fast and busy day on the freeway). Later, Bob
