Alternatively it may be the idle mixture compensator thingy (not the official name) on the side of the carb, this is a small aluminium bathtub shaped sort of thing, about 2" long, and 1/2" square, with a plastic cover. this contains a bimetal strip, and is designed to adjust the mixture to accommodate changes in air temperature, but usually just screws the mixture up. Remove the plastic cover, and screw the adjuster screw right in (there are 2 screws on the bimetal strip, one right at the end holds it on, the other one next to it adjusts the mixture) this should weaken the mixture.
