One of my colleagues was once involved in a small company doing this kind of work and he has told me about ECU software (not Saab) that had nice looking fuel maps that were never used. The real maps were scrambled and hidden inside the code. :-) Once upon a time I disassembled the Bosch Jetronic ECU software from my old 9000T '88 and the code and tables were not trivial to understand.
