The ECU used in the 9-5 is Trionic 7 (T7). T7 has all its software,
maps, and tables in a surface mounted flash memory. Any competent tuner
will download the new software (including maps and tables) through the
diagnostics connector without any physical changes inside the ECU. The
flash memory is the large non-square chip in the lower corner in this
image:
