A third party warranty is basically an expensive insurance program. I generally try to buy insurance to protect against major losses like death, fire, theft, liability, my house, my health, my teeth, etc. Buying insurance for repair expenses just doesn't make sense to me. You can probably afford to be "self insured" for automobile repair costs. If you cannot afford to be "self insured" for these type of repairs, then you should reconsider purchasing the asset (car) until you can afford the upkeep.
