Bought a SAAB 9000 from a UK SAAB dealer 18 months ago. The car is 'P' reg - five years old and has now done 54,000 miles. A month ago I notice a strap rubbing on the ground and noted with horror that it was for holding up the fuel tank and had rotted through. When I took it to my local garage they told me that the second one was about to go. There is no rust on any other areas of the car. The fuel tank at the time was full. Imagine the danger not only to myself but anyone behind me, had I deposited a full fuel tank on the motorway at 70 mph. I contacted SAAB who told me that because I got it fixed at an independent dealer, they didn't want to know. The car had been serviced by SAAB up to then and in fact was a SAAB dealers car!! SAAB's customer relations department describe the incident as "unfortunate, but...." N MacDonald
