Gary- It sounds as if you're fairly new to Saabs - but even if you weren't my recommendation would be the same: if you're serious about the car, take it to a mechanic who specializes in Saab for a pre-purchase inspection. It will cost you $60 to $120 or so but then you'll know what you're considering getting into. There were several different models of Saab 900s in 1991 but it sounds like you're probably looking at a 2 door SPG turbo hatchback. If so, per www.edmunds.com for this model in rough to average condition with 168K mi in my region of US: Trade-in: $577 to $850 Private party sale: $1120 to $1471 Dealer retail: $1990 to $2513 Above values may be slightly higher or lower depending on where you live. 12K to 15K mi per year being average, 168K mi for an 11 yr old car is on the high side regardless what kind of miles they are. Personally, from what you're saying below, I'd be thinking $1200 to $1400 for this car in a private party sale like this - and that assumes your pre-purchase inspection indicates the car is otherwise mechanically sound. As you would soon discover, Saab service of any kind is not cheap. "Blue Book" numbers are simply asking price guidelines for used car dealers and really have no relationship to the prices used cars are actually selling at. Other than that Blue Book values are significantly higher than the actual sale prices, of course.
