Or ditch the >Saab completely? > >Is this a common fault? There is a fault common to all covertibles which is failure of the hood sensors. Mine have given up twcie, each time resulting in the "Soft Top Failure" message, and each time taking my dealer all of about 5 minutes to fix. The wrning message is rather like an ABS warning light - it doesn't always mean the whole system is kaput - it's just a general message saying something's wrong - it could be as simple as someone putting their hand in the mechanism, or a leaf blowing onto one of the sensors. If you're really that paranoid, then fine, ditch the car - but if you bought it because you like it, persevere - all cars have a few teething troubles when new, and Saab's are no different from other makes in that regard. Hassle your dealer straight away when there's a problem, press to have it sorted, as they will only take the car back if you prove to them you have had multiple problems - one hitch isn't going to get you anything! Keep at them, work the problems through, and enjoy a roof-down summer (and winter if you're mad like me!) Hope this helps, H.
