Subject: Re: Fuel Heater

Hi, There are TWO issues one is the horrible acrid smell (the aux heater exhaust cooking a rubber mount to the main exhaust (see my other reply)) and the other is smoke from exhaust... Back in March 2001 I gave this reply.... Hi, Don't worry about the smoke too much, it IS the aux heater. Mine does it occasionally if the heater has not been on very long and the temp comes up quickly. Say if the car was in a cold corner (about 3 or 4 degrees C) and then you drive into traffic where temp due to all cars about is say 6 degrees plus. The burner seems to shut down when it is not hot enough to just burn off the excess diesel it uses to get the heater going. There is a section in the back of the manual which tells you the conditions whereby the heater starts. Solution If it is potentially one of those funny temperatures, press BOTH +- buttons simultaneously until you hear a beep. Do it as soon as you have started the car - you've just switched off the heater. Also you can get a kit for the TID to automatically switch ON the heater at a given time using SID functions (150GBP) Weather forecast says ice - set the heater for 15 - 20 mins before you need it in the morning, come out to a nice warm car. It warms the engine and the cabin. Tip park with the nose downhill and the warm air defrosts the rear screen too.
