If you are referring to a leak at the head oil return passage at the rear of the head (near the transmission), it is an early symptom. This is caused by the expansion and contraction of the dissimilar metals. My father noticed this on a 35kmi '96 9kCSE and it was replaced under warranty. My C900 had an oily rear of the engine as well and I waited for the other signs. Mine sputtered on a hot restart once and I verified coolant in the combustion chamber and did a head gasket in the winter at ~110kmi. Many Saabs have oil leaking here long before the head gasket fails. At this point it is up to you. Be proactive and preventive or drive it until there is a larger problem and keep an eye on oil levels. Regardless, I would make sure that you minimize temperature excursions with thermostat changes and a fan switch change to a lower value as outlined on the Townsend site. $0.02, YMMV, KeithG "Simon Putz" <simon.putznopsamline.de> wrote in message news:ab5u8g$76j$02$1nopsam.t-online.com... > hi > > there is pretty much oil running down in the left corner of the head in my > 2.0NA 9000i MY89.. i was at a mechanic before the 2yearly state checkup > stuff here and he said my chances are pretty bad because he thinks the head > gasket is going. there is no oil in the radiator water tho. the oil is > running down to the pan and its pretty much. also there is a 2wire connector > hanging down under the car which we both dont know what it is for. it is > right under the engine and looks like a small squared connector with 2 pins. > are there any other signs for the head gasket going i could check or is the > oil leak enough? i dont notice a loss of power or something tho. > > bye > > simon putz > >
