Subject: Re: 95SE Noisy Engine (Gearbox??) on acceleration

very interesting. I currently have the same noise problem on my '95 9000 2.3lpt auto (94000). Dealer says the timimg chain needs replacing but doesn't guarantee to cure the rough sound (suspects the timimg chain may be causing vibration back through the engine). If it doesn't then they say next suspect is the gearbox! Seems strange though that in your case and mine the noise should coincide with chain problems if that weren't the cause. An independent has told me there are many sprockets and cogs to replace. Maybe they didn't replace enough on yours.
