In my view, high miles with a car in good exterior condition is probably a good sign, as it might indicate that the owner has kept it in good repair. I got 420K miles out of my '84 900S, before I traded it in (still in good shape, with no major engine work needed throughout its life). I still miss that car, especially when compared to my current '93 9000 CSE. Find out if it's a single owner car, or if the last owner has had it for a long time, and see if the service records are available. Be sure to have it checked out thoroughly by a good mechanic - the $50 or $100 you spend there could save you a lot of grief. Lots of things aren't obvious on a simple visual inspection on a high-mileage car, such as front shock towers with enlarged/oblongated holes.
