Anything other than engine management systems are pretty much the same as any other car. Nothing special about, say, replacing a CV joint on a Saab, or any of the normal maintenance tasks. > don't go through the quick oil change places here in the states. my first > experience was a nightmare of broken oil plug (the guy under the car ran out to > the auto parts store across the way) and i had to drive to my mechanics with a > field wrench stuck in the engine because the guy working under the hood > couldn't get it out. Sounds like he would have screwed up any other car you brought him; how is this a reason not to buy a Saab, exactly? More like a reason to avoid that particular mechanic (rather than all quick-change shops in the country). > that having been said, i've only owned saabs and will continue to until the old > classics are dead. My first Saab was/is a '71 Sonett III, I've been driving that, some 96's, a 95, and then a '88 900T, which I just traded in towards a '99 9-5. The spirit of Saab is definately fully intact in the 9-5; the NG-900's I had/have my doubts about, but the current cars are fantastic. None of the reasons you state are specific in any way to Saabs, and I can't see them as a reason to avoid that manufacturer; only as reasons to avoid certain service facilities. Dave Hinz
