The weakest point (in torsion) is the transition from thread to shank. I did this on a very rusted '89 900. You have to be careful with this fastener. I always use antisieze on the nut and penetrant when I take it off. The one I broke was repaired by welding an appropriate length of thread to the remaining nub. I would not rely on the hose clamp. It is subject to being worn thin and could pose a safety concern if it were to come off.
