Subject: Re: What tyres are best?

I have enclosed a link to diagram of the famous magic roundabout (real name: Plough Roundabout) for all of those that don't know of it. http://www.hemelweb.demon.co.uk/history.htm It's a genius design and works really well, unless you get a Magic Roundabout Virgin in front of you. However for the true roundabout fan, as has previously been said, Milton Keynes is the best place in the world. I have lived in MK for 5 years and I do not know of any other town that can kill tyres as effectively. I get through a pair of front tyres every 8000-10000 miles on the front of my 9000 Aero (1997, P), however I have never replaced my rears (Michelin Pilot HX) they have probably had about 70,000 miles on them over the past 3 years, and have about another 5-6000 to go. Further to previous comments about worn tyres on the rear, I can add that my Aero never oversteers no matter what the road conditions are like. As for recommendations, in the size that I use 205/55/16 (W rated), I have tried many designs and have given a summary below. Michelin Pilot HX (came with the car): Good wear, poor dry grip, OK wet grip, expensive (c £120 each) Michelin Pilot SX: Poor wear, OK dry grip, OK wet grip, average price (£80-90), however I have tried these on a previous (lighter) car where they performed much better. Toyo T1-S Proxes: Poor Wear, Good gry grip, Good wet grip, good price (£75) Continental SportContact: Average wear, Good gry grip, Good wet grip, good price (£75) Bridgestone Potenza S-02 (current tyre, recommend by friend with a TVR): Too early to say about wear, Excellent dry grip, Good wet grip, Good price (£75, run-out price as tyre now discontinued) I have used the Pirelli 6000's in previous cars (not SAAB's) and have never been impressed. I have also tried the new Michelin Primacy on courtesy cars from my local dealer (9-3's and 9-5's) and I state that these are the worst tyres I have ever experienced on a "Performance" car. They have little grip and they screech. I intend to try the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 next based upon it's excellent showing in the Evo Magazine Tyre Test (www.evo.co.uk) Hope this is of some help Lee Marshall <davehinznopsamcop.net> wrote in message news:aeq19u$8p1mf$5nopsam34476.news.dfncis.de... > Someone who looks an awful lot like H. <musicboxnopsamITEnopsamrider.co.uk> wrote: > > I wonder if mapquest or someone has that roundabout online somewhere... >
