Thank you all.... As far as I can see (been driving normally for about two weeks now) the clamp is doing the job - keeping the shock in place by preventing movement _sideways_ I'm checking it every other day, and I can't detect _any_ movement so far. The clamp is industrial strength, and I'm pretty sure it will hold up - at least until next spring (when I have to go through the EU-test again) I had an experienced mechanic look at it, and though he'd never seen this before, he agreed with me. Even if the clamp broke, it would take some heavy driving for the shock to actually fall off the shank. He advised me to bring extra clamps with me, just in case. But thank's for the concern guys!
