YES, there is somethingthat you are missing. And, its really obvious. They do not hold up well over a long period of time. They REQUIRE constant maintenance, things are always going wrong (except for a few and rare exceptions). Really.. having had THREE Saabs that I maintained and was NEVER able to get them to run "just-right" I gave up. I simply could not deal with it anymore. Bought a different car brand (honda) and in the past 70,000 miles I had to change brakes and get new tires. THATS IT!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?!?! And, I bought the car USED. Reliability is amazing. HOWEVER, the newer Saab 9-3's and 9-5's are very good. Saab finally got over the unreliability thing and made cars that are actually a dream to own (so it seems). I would strongly suggest staying away from any Saab 900 or 9000 type car unless you are a really good mechanic or are very good freinds with some. You will SAVE money buying a 9-3 or 9-5 over a 900 or 9000 simply because of maintenance and reliability. Not tomention frustration. matt_winterrothnopsamail.com (Matt Winterroth) wrote in message news:<c903fa18.0206250823.14c3aae0nopsaming.google.com>... > by the way, > > i do live in the US - in RI in fact... > > - matt > > matt_winterrothnopsamail.com (Matt Winterroth) wrote in message news:<c903fa18.0206241408.7af199a6nopsaming.google.com>... > > to whom it may concern, > > > > i am looking to purchase a 1996 or 1997 saab 900 S (or SE if the price > > is right). i was wondering if any of you "experts" and/or enthusiasts > > out there could give me some pros and cons on those years and that > > particular model, as well as specific prices and other tips/things i > > should watch out for. > > > > i am looking to spend between $7 - 10k (for a '96 or '97 with mileage > > between 50k and 70k) and it looks like there are plenty out there for > > that price. why would a sporty hatchback like the 900 S be so low in > > price? and why are there so many of them out there? is there something > > that i am missing? > > > > thanks in advance! > > > > ... ... ... . . . > > > > Matt Winterroth > > > > phone: + 1 401.789.3698 > > mobile: + 1 917.362.4214 > > e-mail: matt_winterrothnopsamail.com > > web: http://www.winterroth.com > > aim: mcwinterr
