They've got a deservedly good reputation, and the price doesn't sound out of line. But, is it worth it on an '86? > Kelly blue book says after fixing it it would be worth about $1,600. My '88 never did reach that point at 247K miles, but I replaced it for other reasons. > Is 1994 the first year for R-134a refrigerant? > I was thinking of either a 9000 or another 900 hatchback. Obviously you want to stay away from the CIS injection systems, but those would be older anyway. (altitude gives them a hard time, as the CIS uses air volume rather than air mass to meter the fuel. Which is why it was replaced when the technology was ready). > Any years to stay a way from? Some years better than others? Other > suggestions? Don't buy the V6, but other than that ... maybe you could talk to the mechanics at Mile-Hi about the specific cars they know that are available. Service history may be more important than model year differences. If you're talking classic 900, get 1989 or later for the pinion bearing fix, but other than that I can't think of anything. (Side note: I have a red APC box which might be of interest to you, contact me by email if you're interested. No clue what it's worth, we'd have to see what they go for on ebay or something). > I've had this car for almost 8 years but if it is going to need a lot of > work and money it might be better to replace it with something more modern. Yup. If you stay with the 900 platform, you can use the same snowtires / rims... something to consider. Dave Hinz
