I would place it the way that you blow the air against it ( that is the side uset to push the debries out toward the cabin . Reason .. well if dirt sucks in in one direction it is easier to blow them out from other direction ... But from practicalpoit of view the flat side should be facind outward .(better filteration ) or atleast that is way I have mine in .
