Theoretically, everything is optional depending on how lucky you are and how long and well you want it to work when it is finished. Personally, I would replace the receiver/drier (accumulator) and the expansion valve when there is any major maintenance like this on the AC system. You wouldn't want to have the system evacuated again in a few months just because an inexpensive part no longer works. Someone once told me that the receiver/drier is like the oil filter on the engine and should be replaced after several years or anytime the system is opened up to replace a major component. Too bad it isn't priced like an oil filter. The valve they were taking about is probably the expansion valve. It tends to become clogged, so its replacement is also recommended. In the US I get aftermarket parts and haven't seen it as a part of any kit. One place I shop sells it for US$16.90. http://eeuroparts.com/cgi-bin/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=E &Product_Code=9480914&Category_Code=9000-92AC%2FHEAT Some people would also recommend replacing the compressor because it is worn from its 11 years of usage. Also, R134 puts a higher load on the compressor than R12. The original compressor might not handle this additional load that it wasn't designed to accommodate. New compressors are built with R132 applications in mind. But since compressors are rather expensive, you might want to wait until it actually fails -- if you can deal with the extra trip for repairs.
