The answer is no. Saab is off the beaten path, no on knows much about them. Check Consumer Reports or similar for repair history. [Of course take whatever they say (negative) about *any* car with a grain of salt as their categories are way too wide to be really useful. For example, in their ratings, cars with head gasket problems would look as bad as cars that consistently through rods through the block. Cars with wiring harnesses that burned up would look as bad as cars with consistently bad headlight bulbs. So, look for the aggregate rating as an overall indicator of quality. ] >What sort of major problems am I going to face? None. >The resale value of the car is quite low. This is one of the reasons I'm >so drawn to it, but is this also indicative of problems with the vehicle? No. Saab has several resale problem issues. First, they are considered a little "oddball". Less popularity means a lower resale. Saabs also typically go on sale for $4k off MSRP at the end of every year. That plays havoc with resale values too. Lastly, Saab does not hike *new* car prices each year. Hiking new prices drags up the old prices accordingly. Check how much the price of a new Porsche goes up each year - it drags up the used market to follow it. Many of us buy used Saabs a couple years old to take advantage of this market drop. As long as you plan to keep the car a while it will work _greatly_ in your favor. > >And finally, can anyone point me towards some dealers or websites that have >a good number of used Saab's in the states? If you are in the NorthEastern USA, I know a great, super small, *off lease* one-man dealer in MA. Bob
