Riiiiight... > Note the use of my word 'more'. So, quantify or retract, Davo. You'll have to go back about a decade, seems like a lot of work. Or, maybe you could just pay attention a bit closer & start a running tally. Alternately, I can think of dozens of use of anyone's time which would be more useful. >> Let's see. I dislike spammers, people who try to cheat their way through >> life, and people who go against usenet conventions (like, don't post a >> binary to a text newsgroup). Which of these actions are you defending, >> and on what grounds exactly? > Your infer that I defend 'spamming' and 'those who cheat their way through > life'? Retract please! Let me put it this way. This guy wanders into saabnet, breaks a rule which is right in front of one's face when they post, and then in his message to the guy who lets people use the site for free, basically says "I'm doing this because your site sucks". How many mistakes did he make in this process? Did he show good judgement, or bad judgement? In posting the email, how was his judgement in that one? I'd consider it to be consistantly bad. > CN was hardly spamming. http://spam.abuse.net/overview/whatisspam.shtml > Usenet conventions aren't known by all. Politeness as I've seen from others, > resolve and educate newbies fairly quickly. The guy who donates his resources to run saabnet considers it a breach of his rules to post a URL to a website that does not reciprocate with a link back to saabnet. His playground, his rules. I don't use Saabnet often myself, as I find the interface to be clunky, but I don't go on there breaking his posted rules. >> > You will not be forgiven.. as I won't for this >> > post... but hey, who gives a toss. >> >> Actually, I haven't noticed you much either way. It's not rocket science... > No, I didn't miss that twice. It's your ridiculously rude attitude here that > turns others off. It's not rocket science.... I merely echoed the attitude that the original poster presented with. He posted a whiny message saying something to the effect of "since I'm being picked on, I'm taking the site down". My argument never was with his site, it was with how he abused a free resource in several ways to promote it. Likewise, with the guy who wandered in, posted a binary, and then tried to claim the world was all wrong and everyone must change for him, I spent a non-trival amount of time explaining the mechanics of a news server, how text and binary queues have different amounts of space allocated, how that relates to message retention times, and so on. But, it was apparently wasted effort as you see it. That's the nice thing about opinions & perceptions, isn't it Davo? That different people can see things differently? In any case - if you're keeping tally, that's just fine. I will continue to post helpful information where I am able, and I will continue to blast those who deserve it. Dave Hinz
