cheers - some of the pictures are a little 'staged' for the camera so may not be totally accurate (I tried to take a couple of steps at a time to save switching on and off and getting oil all over the camera) , I was careful not to put any pressure on the bearings themselves, only the inner sleeve. The one thing I was really unsure about was bearing tension, end float, and installing shims to compensate, if anyone can offer advice on this aspect I would be very gratefull. thanks David "MH" <mhnopsamere.net> wrote in message news:Xiko9.11929$gD2.1232219nopsaml1.home.nl... > ... Seeing you post made me get my finger out and > make a web page > http://homepage.ntlworld.com/home01/gearbox.html Excellent ! very informative. - the page does not fit the width of my screen If you decrease the width of the picture(table) you eliminate the need to scroll horizontally - I am not sure if your method of driving bearings into place is safe, make sure there is no force on the ball races when you do it like this. ------------------------------------------- MH '72 97 '77 96 '78 95 '79 96 http://go.to/saab96 "David Haydon" <home01nopsamorld.com> schreef in bericht news:cijo9.1280$5t4.155256nopsamfep1-win.server.ntli.net... > Walt, it just so happens that I've just replaced the 2nd gear synchro on my > '98 9k aero.
