>Making processes more environmentally friendly is deemed to expensive >for the US. Although this thread has gone way off topic, I had to give the rebuttal that I don't think this is true any longer, and I don't believe that President Bush 43 or his staff have made any claim (or any other comment on the subject) that it is impossible to gain from decreasing waste. After all, he has been in office for less than two years and pollution and the debate on how to reduce it has been around much longer than that. Or where you talking about the previous President Bush 41? He hasn't been in public office for over a decade, and while his opinion might be interesting, any comments he makes would be irrelevant from a public policy standpoint. The sentiment that you describe was true when the government was telling industry how they had to clean up in a very heavy handed way. It prevented companies from looking at their processes and making them more efficient, like you mentioned they did in Germany, because they were told that they _must_ put certain equipment in place as the only method of reducing pollution. Also, the fact that the US uses 30% of the world energy is a bit misleading because much of that energy is used to make products and grow crops that are shipped all over the world for the benefit of people everywhere.
