Subject: Re: Saab 900 turbo ??

I posted a long one yesterday, but Mozilla crashed. I'll summarize. The dash lights on a C900 are a bit odd. There are 2 rheostats. One for the total dash and one for the instruments. Make sure both are turned up all the way. The main is directly in front of the turn signal, the other is the post to the right of the trip reset on the instruments. If the main rheostat is bad (common) a simple solution is to just short both connections for full brightness all the time (what I did on my '89). If the bulbs are bad, you replace them by removing the left radio speaker and twist them out. The only issue common to the '89 MY is the potential for a dead engine ECU. These are pricey new, but pretty cheap used. If so, I would suggest using a 90-93 unit used. These die by failing to turn on the fuel pump. If it has been replaced, great!, no worries. Check to see if everything works. Cruise is also a niggling issue to keep running, but it usually not that expensive to fix. Rust spots: RF fender lip, Rear fender lips fwd edge, boor bottoms inside. Another issue with C900s is a pitted windshield. This is because they are so vertical. They usually can stand to be replaced at about 120kmi because of pitting from sand and stones. It can be pretty dangerous in the AM and PM with a low sun due to high glare.
