Had the exact same thing happen to my 97 900se convertible this past summer. Take another look under the seats...look for a small gray cube-shaped box about 1 1/2" square. Each seat has one, toward the front, up high under the seat. It has no wires going in or out, just this box thing. It plugs into a socket that is mounted under the seat. The socket faces the rear of the car. There are actually two socket spots, next to each other, under each seat. In my case the box thing had fallen out under the driver's seat only, yet it disabled both seats. If you look from the rear with a flashlight, you'll see where it should go...I first plugged it back into one of the two sockets, no help, switched it to the other and the problem was resolved. I think we knocked it off while vacuuming under there.
