I have an 87 9000S here in Maryland. You may want to try flushing you 
system and going to the hotter thermostat for the cold months. In the 
spring you can always change back to the 82 degree celsius thermostat. 
Make sure your coolant is a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water. I use 
distilled water to mix with mine. It helps cut down on the corrosion 
with the aluminum in the engine.
